Acoustic foam . . . which one should I use?

When choosing an acoustic foam to absorb reverberated sound/echo in your space, there are many considerations . . . Melamine Acoustic foam or "Melfoam" our trademark name, is not ideal for humid or wet areas. Melamine foam is an open cell foam consisting of millions of open cells which act like a sponge to absorb & trap the sound thus reducing the noise. The downside. . . melamine foam also acts like a sponge to absorb & hold up to 10 times its weight in water, making it extremely heavy when wet or moist.

Another consideration is that it will also absorb dust and dirt in the air; so if you have fans and or air conditioning vents close to the foam, the dusty air gets absorbed into the foam and over time the foam can can look very dirty as pictured below.

The foam cannot be cleaned and painting the foam is somewhat problematic, because it can compromise the sound absorption capability; the only solution is replacement.

The best product to use for wet, humid and dusty environments is a waterproof foam like our QuietfoamW which is 100% waterproof, cleanable, chlorine and chemical proof.  It will not absorb water, dirt or dust and is perfect for humid environments like Swimming Centres due to its chlorine resistant nature.  For more information on our 100% Waterproof Acoustic foam go to Quietfoam W
